It is amazing how technology informed the students of the 21st century truly are. I interviewed about 8 students from my second grade class. Most of the students are between 7 and 8 years old. A few students have cell phones, only one student knew how to text. Almost all students had electronic games of some type. All had access to a computer, several had their own computer. I interviewed both girls and boys, two of the student were ELL. It was difficult to find out how long the students spend on the computer because at this young age most have no concept of how long an hour is. The student that has a cell phone and knows how to text was my level 1 ELL student... I was thrilled to hear her speak even though most of her responses were single word answers...I have written often about her and her progress. I had a bit of a surprise during this interview process when I asked one of my students if she had a VCR and she said What's a VCR? That just reinforced what we already know... that technology is changing at record breaking speeds.

ReplyDeleteYour students are adorable. It was so wonderful to hear your voice. I always like to put a face to a name, but it was such a thrill to hear you! You are so a 2nd grade teacher. You were really able to engage the kids and getthem to respond. Middle School kids were great before hand, but got shorter and more consise as the interview went on. Ane they would only do the interview as a group. Ms. Bowman it was nice to meet you voice to ear.
